Course Winner Has Conditions just Right For Another Successful Run
The five-year-old mare MILLIE THE MINX seems to enjoy her periodic trips across the North Pennines from Cumbria as she has had success at Sedgefield twice from eight attempts, with three placed efforts bolstering these figures. She goes there today for the Watch Sky Sports Racing In HD Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle over the extended two miles and has a favourites chance of getting her head in front again.
Her recent form has not been as good as in 2018 but she has still been there or thereabouts, with places in six flat races and rarely beaten far. She runs off a mark of 98 today and that is 6lb lower than her last outing over hurdles when third, beaten six lengths to Graceland at Cartmel in May. She is carrying 7lb more than in her ready victory here last December, and that shouldn’t stop her if fit and well. The mare has also had a wind operation since her last run two months ago and this can also help to get her back in the winners enclosure today. She is by Eclipse winner Medicean, whose progeny are an encouraging 11 from 54 (20%) at Sedgefield, whilst trainer Sayer is 48% better than expected here. Apprentice Theo Gillard is on board and he is two from six at the course, a more than encouraging stat.
CHRISTMAS IN USA looks a significant challenger to Millie and is top on BTO regular and speed ratings. He was down the field to Gennady last month but had two wins and a second last Spring from three outings and is up just 6lb for the last of them which should be manageable. FIRST OF NEVER has good jockey, trainer and sire stats but might struggle with the ground and SWEET MARMALADE, another back from a wind operation, is being backed and has earlier good flat form - but on good ground.
Millie The Minx can be backed at 11/4 with Hills and BetVictor.
