Hurdler Set To Open Season With A Win
Lingfield winners today will fulfil the criteria of staying ability, a liking for soft ground and fitness, and we have, in POTTERS HEDGER, a horse that definitely matches two of them. The Lucy Wadham trained gelding has won on good to soft at Plumpton and been placed on soft at the same course and at Fakenham, as well as being beaten just a neck on heavy by Reckless Behaviour at Market Rasen in the Spring of 2018. Also, he is by Midnight Legend whose progeny are a healthy 15% on today's ground,so all is well on the going front.
This afternoon's race is over a distance of just under two and a half miles and reference to his sire again shows a nice winning stat of 13% at that trip and he has winning form at three miles and a furlong. As regards fitness, there has to be some guesswork as he has been off the course for six months but his second to Reckless behaviour was after 75 days off. Reference to prominent bookies who usually get it right show him being backed in to 11/4, though those with a BlackType account can get a juicy 10/3, a price not to be missed. Trainer Wadham's four from 10 at Lingfield (115% better than expected) is the icing on the cake.
REVE looks a considerable danger. This is his first race after a wind operation and he has decent flat form on an all-weather surface in France and a win over hurdles at Catterick. He is by Nathaniel whose sons and daughters have a significant eight from 29 winning stat on heavy ground. Richard Johnson is on board and he was successful on the only previous time he partnered the horse, in that winning effort at Catterick.
BARNTOWN looks to have improvement in him and NEVER EQUALLED is being backed but hasn't shown a reason for that support lately. He does love deep ground and his trainer Bernard Llewellyn is back in form with three winners from 11 runners in the last fortnight. Potters Hedger looks the winner if fit.
