Quick Return Set To Capitalise on Recent Form
The Shaun Lycett trained TORCELLO can extend his winning run when he tackles the one mile and three furlongs Ivor Laws Memorial Handicap at Windsor this afternoon. He has, by accident or design, never run on ground faster than good in a career spent partly in Ireland, and is winner on his last two starts, on soft and heavy over 10 furlongs. The gelding has won over hurdles but seems to be best suited to middle distances on the flat, with all of his five wins without obstacles coming at the trip, including a victory over a mile and a half at Newmarket two years ago. Ground and distance look ideal.
His recent successes have earned him a rise in his rating and a 5lb penalty, but the booking of Megan Nicholls will go some way to negate that today as she takes off three. He goes off a mark of 83 this afternoon, just 2lb higher than when he made all and bolted in from Zzoro at Epsom last week. That horse had won his previous race so the form stands up. The son of Sea The Stars doesn't have to make all but will at least be up with the pace and his determination will, hopefully get him home in front. Lycett and Nicholls are one from two at Windsor.
DRAGONS VOICE and CRYSTAL KING are next best on ratings and the latter is being backed. This looks more down to trainer/jockey Stoute and Moore than form as the horse was well beaten when 11th of 16 at Haydock last time. Although this is a big drop in class for him, so is the distance, as he has been competing over trips as long as two miles.. SportingBet and Bet888 still have Torcello at 5/2 and that looks attractive.
