Eustace Gelding Ready To Strike
When trained by Luca Cumani, and for his first four runs for James Eustace, HIGHFALUTING was regarded as a middle-distance performer, probably based on his pedigree as a son of dual 2002 Derby winner High Chaparral. He managed just a couple of placed efforts at a mile and two furlongs, however, and was switched to a mile here at Kempton after a poor run over twelve furlongs at Salisbury in June. Unfancied at 12/1, he beat Toro Dorada in a photo. That horse has run a close third since off a 4lbs higher mark and the fourth, Kindergarten Kop, had won two of his previous three races. The third, Makambe then beat Highfaluting a neck in a rematch a fortnight later so the form looks excellent.
Gerald Mosse's mount is switched to a furlong less today and we have to rely partially on the wisdom of connections that this will get him the extra three or four pounds improvement necessary for victory, bearing in mind that he is up 2lbs. His dam Walk On Water raced four times for Henry Cecil, all at six furlongs and won two. She has produced I Can and Showing Off, both seven furlongs winners so things look optimistic. Trainer Eustace is 19% at Kempton and has one win from one try when employing today’s pilot Mosse there.
SILCA MISTRESS is second best on BTO ratings and her trainer Clive Cox is in rattling form with eight winners from his last 43 runners, but she may be destined for a place again. KAMIKAZE LORD can be regarded as a winner without a penalty. He looked ready to strike when jockey Rob Havlin was ready to push the button over course and distance last time but had to sit and suffer behind the leaders. He was eventually fourth, wearing a tongue-tie for just the second time and on his first try at the distance. Off the same mark he is a clear danger. UNCLE JERRY is being backed and will run well but hasn't won for nearly a year and is just 2lbs down from his last run, still 3lbs higher than his win last year. Highfaluting, at 7/2 can talk the talk this evening.
