Last-Time-Out Winner To Apply Himself At Fontwell
The burden of an extra 7lbs would normally suggest great caution when assessing a previous handicap winner’s chances of repeating the trick but when jumping is the game it might not necessarily apply. DOWNLOADTHEAPP goes for the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novices' Handicap Chase at Fontwell this afternoon after a determined win at Stratford a month ago. That was his third race over the bigger obstacles, and he had made small but significant errors in his previous two, especially at Market Rasen, where he was clumsy when tired at the last.
At Stratford he put himself right at one on the first circuit before engaging in a duel with Culm Counsellor in the final two furlongs. He slightly shortened approaching the last but then pinged it before pulling away and is clearly improving. Culm Counsellor has run third since, not beaten far. The stable's intent is clear; trainer David Bridgwater is eight from 35 at Fontwell and 168% better than expected when teaming up with Brenda Powell there.
GOLDSLINGER is next best on ratings and has been backed into 3/1. He ran a race with some promise in it on his chase debut two months ago, but he has only competed twice since May and hasn't won for over 18 months. Similar doubts apply to TAAFFES CASTLE, who is well treated but doesn't look in love with the game, whilst point-to-point winner Ballyjim looks best of the chasing debutants.
At 9/4, Downloadtheapp looks a worthy favourite.
