Easterby Youngster Can Take Prize
Carlisle has, as usual, not managed to avoid the rain that have plagued the UK this last week, and the heavy going will not suit many contestants tonight who have won or run well on more typically summer good ground.
One who will like the give on breeding, and whose form is better than the bare figures suggest is the Tim Easterby trained ICE SKATE, a daughter of high class sprinter Due Diligence who took a couple of races with ease in the going and went close on similar ground in the 2015 Betfred Haydock sprint.
The progeny of Due Diligence are a very encouraging three from seven on soft, a small but significant sample. The filly's latest effort was on good to soft at Ripon and the seventh of 15 was a more promising effort than the form figures suggest. Like a lot of sprints at the Yorkshire course, it developed into a far rail vs stands rail event. Ice Skate was on the stand side but the first three home were drawn on the far, with War Of Clans taking the race. What A Business won the stands side race, with Ice Skate less than a length and a half behind. Up just 1lb, the filly looks overpriced in her bid this afternoon.
AUKLAND LODGE is top rated and is a course and distance winner. MECCA'S HOT STEPS is seemingly going the wrong way and disappointed in a Ripon maiden last time out and VENTURA FLAME ran really well in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot but has disappointed since.
Ice Skate has good each-way potential at 12/1 in a nine-horse field.
