Quick Returner Has Ideal Conditions For Another Win
The winner of the Funkin Cocktails Lady Riders' Handicap, the opening race at Ayr this evening, will require ability to act on ground with plenty of give in it and a pilot on board who has talent and, probably, experience. The Rebecca Bastiman trained seven-year-old BE BOLD fulfils both those criteria, and can get his head in front where it matters. His jockey is Serena Brotherton, who has had 240 rides in the last five years, with 17% being winners and a further 60+ being placed; she won on My Boy Sepoy just last Thursday.
Be Bold ran a cracker as recently as last Wednesday when going down by a length to Sumner Beach at Pontefract. He has raced on soft or heavy ground on 11 occasions and has won four of them, so the going won't be a problem. He ran off a mark of 52 on Thursday and goes off the same today and he has progressed upwards in trip in his six-year career, with today's mile probably now his optimum. Trainer and jockey are a nice two from eight at today’s course.
PUDDING CHARE, a triple winner here, is next best on BTO ratings and can be backed at 16/1, but EQUIDAE, still an entire, looks the biggest danger. At a best 5/2 (being backed) with Bet365, he was beaten only narrowly when third over course and distance on soft ground 12 days ago and goes off the same mark of 65 today. He has improved a lot since moving to Iain Jardine's Dumfries yard in February and the fitting of a tongue-tie.
At an easily found 4/1 expect an approprite showing from Be Bold.
