Quick Returner Has Conditions To Win Again
After a predominantly Point-To-Point career, where he won half of his twenty races and was placed in six others, PINK EYED PEDRO has had a successful 2019, mixing hurdles and chases and achieving three wins. He is back over the smaller obstacles this evening and can see off his main rival JIMMY RABBITTE at what is probably an ideal two and a half miles trip. His latest run, and win, was over a furlong longer here last week when staying on well in front of previous winner Bletchley Castle and runner-up Included, in a decent little Novices' Handicap Chase. Over hurdles, the furlong shorter trip looks ideal.
He seems the same horse at either discipline, so the 1lb he is raised for that win, from a mark of 115, doesn't look as though it will stop him. Trainer David Brace is in top form with another horse in the small Bridgend stable, Rasasee, winning twice on the flat in the last ten days.
Jimmy Rabbitte was beaten at short odds at Market Rasen 11 days ago, but he looks a typical Dr Richard Newland improver and the return to two and a half miles may suit him well - he won over the distance last year at Catterick.
DOVILS DATE is on a four-timer but has gone up 13lbs since his last win and that might just be enough to stop him winning. In all, it looks a fascinating Class 3 handicap and a close finish is anticipated with Pink Eyed Pedro getting up close home. He is at 11/4 with many of the layers and that looks reasonable.
