Improving Eight-Year-Old Ready To Strike Again
A flat horse that passes his or her eighth birthday is often regarded as a veteran but those of that age can be still novices over jumps. The Grant Cann trained SAVE THE PENNIES enters that category, having come out of the point-to-point field in 2016 and subsequently run five times. Three races over the winter were disappointing and she only beat six home from 28 competitors but raced over today's course and distance just over a fortnight ago, she was a revelation, coming home by a neck from Compadre after nearly coming down two out when nodding on landing. The form looks excellent with Compadre having come home first in his previous race and then winning easily by seven lengths since. Save The Pennies stayed on really well there, is top on BTO ratings and gets three nice positives, all in relation to Huntingdon. She looks very capable of overcoming his extra six pounds and may find quick returner and previous double winner COOPERS SQUARE her nearest rival. SISANIA is well rated and is being backed from 8/1 but at the exchanges' 3/1, Save The Pennies can give a decent pay back.
