Deutsch Mount Looks Ready To Storm Up The Hill
A glance at any racing correspondent's preview of Cheltenham today will almost certainly see the words "goes on the ground" and "stay" being used and a horse that fills those criteria is YALA ENKA in the Ultima Handicap Chase. Like a lot of Venetia Williams' charges he is an old fashioned- type chaser who goes in the mud. Quick reference points for punters without the time for form study are the headings of "Sire Going", "Sire Distance" and "Past Performance" on BTOPlus+ and a few candidates stand out on the Cheltenham card. These include some at long odds, such as FIRST FLOW in the opener, ELGIN in the Champion and LA BAGUE AU ROI in the OLBG Mares' and Yala Enka also fits the bill. His performance last time out at Haydock when comfortably beating one of the National favourites, Blaklion, was more than impressive. The ground was described as “heavy” that day, but local knowledge suggests this was a euphemism for "bottomless" and Yala jumped well and finished strongly over the three and a half mile trip. He had fallen on his previous outing at Sandown but that was at the first fence which could be just regarded as an anomaly. He is up six pounds but that might be irrelevant in the conditions and if he's in touch two out get excited as he’ll stay up the hill. The 16/1 at Sportingbet is attractive.
Away from Cheltenham - and prices pay out the same whichever course the winner runs at - TELLEVOI in the 1.45, HADDAF in the 3.45 and WINDFORPOWER in the last have plenty going for them.
