Apple's Jade could be the first mare since Quevega to win back-to-back renewals of this but Warren Greatrex has an interesting runner at a bigger price.
Connections of Apple’s Jade have resisted the opportunity to go for the Stayers Hurdle with this very smart mare who won this year and broke the Willie Mullins stranglehold on the race having won it eight times in a row. Unbeaten since that day, she’s clearly going to be a tough nut to crack but faces two very decent rivals in Benie Des Dieux and LA BAGUE AU ROI.
The former of that duo is totally unexposed having only had three runs for the Mullins team since joining them and all of those have come over fences. She’s won them all and has a very similar profile to another one from this stable, the now retired Vroum Vroum Mag; all in all she’s a fascinating contender.
Connections of La Bague Au Roi finally decided on this race at the Festival and she has a sporting chance of causing a minor upset. Despite the fact that she’s looked best at 3m so far, this 2m4f will be a good test in the likely prevailing conditions as she bids to complete a five-timer and provide Britain with their first winner since the inaugural running of this race back in 2008.
It’s hard to see any of the others winning this although both Jer’s Girl and Kayf Grace could be given place chances if any of the main players underperform.
