Five Year Old Ticks A Few Significant Boxes
The Irish point to point circuit has produced numerous top National Hunt performers over the years and there might just be another one out today that has his third run under rules at Huntingdon. The well named TURTLE WARS (Turtle Bowl - Forces Sweetheart) goes in the Smarkets EBF "National Hunt" Maiden Hurdle and although opposed by some likely ones, has good prospects of getting his head in front. He will eventually go chasing over a distance and today's bare two miles might prove to be a little short but his debut over hurdles over Bangor's two miles at the end of October was full of promise and he was then pitched into a decent race at Ascot a month later. His finishing position of ninth in a field of 15 belies a good run, where he hurdled well and looked to be in with a shout before fading away two out. He wasn't hammered, being beaten a dozen lengths and looked a future winner. Kildisart, who won the race, was second in the big handicap hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day.
BTOPlus+ rates Henderson's gelding best on regular and speed ratings, ahead of MAIRE BANRIGH and FIRST DU CHARMIL and gives him a multitude of positives, These include Henderson and Jockey Noel Fehily's three from six at the course, the trainer's current win ratio of 35% and the gelding's sire's 11% better than expected with his prigeny on the going. LAD OF LUCK has some good BTO stats behind him but the 11/4 on offer at Black Type for the selection looks good.
