Two Year Old Ready To Break Duck At Nottingham
Martyn Meade's SHIP OF THE FEN makes his fourth career appearance today and has a lot going for him in this nine furlong nursery. His second to Showroom over a mile at Goodwood last month was a decent performance, with him staying on well at the end of that mile event on ground similar to today's. His pedigree also looks good, as the progeny of his sire Champ Elysees are often at their best when the emphasis is placed on stamina and he gets a BTOPlus+ positive under "Sire Distance". BTO has him second to BAILEYS EXCELERATE on regular and speed figures but the latter gets four negatives, including trainer Mark Johnson's 46% worse than expected over course and distance. Comparatively, Meade is four from 18 at the course and 37% better than expected at the distance. Ship Of The Fen is best under five BTO headings and can be backed at 5/2 with Paddy Power.
