Richard Johnson is being assessed in hospital after picking up a suspected arm injury following a fall at Exeter.
The 42-year-old went off as the 11/8 favourite in the Dare To Dream Novices' Limited Handicap Chase but he was unseated at the sixth fence.
Johnson received treatment at the track before he was taken away to hospital for further assessment on an arm injury.
"He's gone to Exeter hospital for further assessment, but he walked into the ambulance and he has been talking," said clerk of the course Daniel Cooper.
The champion jockey currently trails rival Brian Hughes by three winners in the title battle and could lose further ground if he is forced to spend time on the sidelines.
