Waiting Patiently is unlikely to race again this season after suffering an ankle injury.
The nine-year-old has chipped his ankle and trainer Ruth Jefferson expects him to sit out the rest of the campaign after an operation.
Waiting Patiently - third in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on his reappearance last month - was in line to run in the Grade One Clarence House Chase on January 18, but has been forced out of contention.
Jefferson said: "We found he had chipped an ankle after schooling this morning. It will be operated on in the next few days and he will probably miss the rest of the season.
"It's very frustrating, particularly when it's one of the good ones, but it's just one of those things."
