Trainer Colin Tizzard has admitted Native River could join stablemate Lostintranslation in the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.
Native River finished third in the three-mile showpiece at Kempton last year, but it had appeared as though he would not be entered this time around, with Tizzard instead focusing his attention on Lostintranslation, who is challenging the Paul Nicholls-trained Cyrname for favouritism.
However, Tizzard has refused to rule Native River completely out of the Grade One contest, with the trainer admitting he may supplement the 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero into the race if conditions suit.
"I hope it rains every day between now and Kempton, then I might run Native River as well," Tizzard revealed during a media event at his yard.
"It might be that they go flat out in the King George and that is why we are keeping the door half open. If the ground came up soft or even heavy, then he could be supplemented."
Native River certainly underlined his form during Saturday's Many Clouds Chase at Aintree, as he dominated from the front, although his victory was made easier by the early exit of his old rival Might Bite.
