Connections of Nagano Gold have announced he should return to England to compete at Royal Ascot once more in 2020.
The five-year-old made the headlines in June as he finished second in the Hardwicke Stakes to Defoe. The Czech Republic trained charge was severely hampered at the start but still managed to come home just half a length behind the winner.
He was in action on Sunday in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but he had to settle for eighth place in difficult conditions as Waldgeist ended Enable's chances of winning the race for the third time in succession.
Nagano Gold is now set to be rested for the remainder of the year, with connections excited for another tilt at the Hardwicke Stakes in 2020.
"The horse is OK after the race. It was not an easy race for him. Probably the ground was too soft for him," said Tomas Janda, racing manager to owner-trainer Vaclav Juka Jr.
"We did hope for a bit better place, but the jockey confirmed the ground was too much for him.
"He will probably not run again this year. There is no suitable race for him, but he stays in training, and so we will make plans for next year during the winter.
"The Hardwicke Stakes is quite probable. Ascot suits him. It's a good race, it was great atmosphere, everything.
"We all really enjoyed it, so I can imagine there is a very high chance that he will come back for that race. He was a bit unlucky not to win this year."
