Crystal Ocean's racing career is over after he picked up an injury on Thursday on the Newmarket gallops.
The Sir Evelyn De Rothschild-owned charge, who is from the fourth crop of foals sired by Sea The Stars, was taking part in a routine canter at Newmarket when suffering the injury.
It has now been confirmed the Sir Michael Stoute-trained five-year-old, who never finished outside of the top three during his 17-race career, will not be returning to the race track.
A spokesman for the owner said: "The hope is he makes a full recovery. He's had to have two screws inserted into a cannon bone. At this stage the vet sees no problem at all in him heading to stud but it is early days."
During his racing career, Crystal Ocean won June's Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot under Frankie Dettori before losing to Enable in a thrilling King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in July.
