Aidan O'Brien admits Ten Sovereigns is unlikely to run in the Spring Cup at Haydock on Saturday due to the predicted soft ground.
The three-year-old has had something of an up and down season, as he was a beaten favourite in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot before returning to winning ways with a dominant display in the July Cup.
However, since then the No Nay Never colt was only able to finish sixth when the hot favourite in the Nunthorpe at York last month and it appears his hopes of making a quick return to action in this weekend's Group One feature have now been dashed.
Speaking at a press event at his yard on Wednesday morning, O'Brien said: "I would say we wouldn't run on soft ground. There is rain forecast and that is not good."
O'Brien confirmed that if they do opt against running Ten Sovereigns at Haydock, then stablemate Fairyland is likely to take his place.
The trainer added: "He is a real fast ground daisy cutter. If he doesn't run, Fairyland might run instead. That's what we are thinking at the moment."
