Menuisier 'delighted' with Thundering Blue shapePosted on Monday 19th August 2019 @ 08.31

David Menuisier "couldn't be more pleased" with Thundering Blue as he looks to improve on last year's Juddmonte International display.

The six-year-old grey was 50/1 ahead of the York showpiece last August, but produced an impressive performance when coming in behind winner Roaring Lion and Poet's Blue.

A seventh and last-place finish on his seasonal reappearance at Sandown in April was followed with another third at Goodwood in May.

Thundering Blue finished last of seven again in his previous outing in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in late June, but Menuisier is adamant that the lack of pace in the race means that result can be ignored.

Menuisier said: "His last run you can draw a line through, because it was a typical French race with no pace.

"They ran in snatches - stop go, stop go. It wasn't going to suit him, so I'm more than happy to draw a line through that."

He added: "I think he's definitely coming on - he's a very seasonal horse.

"He comes to himself in the summer, and I'm genuinely very pleased with him.

"He went to Newmarket for a racecourse gallop last weekend, and I was delighted with him. He seems happy and full of beans. I couldn't be more pleased."
