Paul Nicholls says plans for Clan Des Obeaux's next outing will be confirmed when there has been some rain.
The six-year-old, which is part-owned by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, was forced to swerve the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday as the conditions were too firm.
Having missed the race in West Yorkshire, connections are now deliberating where the gelding will go next and there is every chance he will crop up at Haydock on November 24 in the Betfair Chase.
Nicholls, who has trained over 2000 winners during his career, is yet to make a permanent decision and revealed rain is required before plans are finalised.
"I would have love to have run Clan Des Obeaux in the Charlie Hall, but he just wants cut in the ground," he said. "I might end up getting forced to run in the Betfair Chase.
"It's probably not ideal - but what else do you do? Otherwise, he will end up running off top weight in a handicap. We will make plans when it rains."
