Tiger Roll was made to work hard by Pleasant Company but managed to win the Randox Health Grand National by a head.
The 10/1 shot, with Davy Russell on board, cruised to the head of affairs in the home straight and seemed to have put serious daylight between himself and Pleasant Company.
However Willie Mullins' charge, with David Mullins on board, refused to give in and closed with every stride as the line approached.
Luckily for Russell, the finishing post came just in time and Tiger Roll added the world’s greatest steeplechase to this year's victory at Cheltenham in the Cross-Country Chase last month and previous victories in the Triumph Hurdle and National Hunt Chase.
After the race, the winning jockey admitted he felt the runner-up coming and was relieved to get over the line.
"I did have a big fear," said Russell. "That would have been heart breaking. I was thinking of my mum and my kids.
"I've won this race thousands of times in my head and I've never won it like I've done today."
Winning trainer Gordon Elliott also saddled the third home, Bless The Wings, with Anibale Fly coming home fourth at Aintree.
