Trainer Graeme McPherson says Ami Desbois is being lined up for a shot at the Towton Novices' Chase at Wetherby next month.
The eight-year-old racked up back-to-back victories at the West Yorkshire track in November and December last year, an impressive start to life over fences, and much was expected from the next outing at Cheltenham.
However, McPherson's charge struggled with the heavy conditions and, having led early on in the race, he was eventually pulled up by Paddy Brennan after the jockey said he heard a noise from the horse.
Several tests have taken place since, all which have failed to come back with any notable issues, and the trainer has now revealed Ami Desbois could take part in the meeting at Wetherby on February 3.
"We'll just put a line through it and he'll be back out at the end of this month somewhere, hopefully on a flatter track and better ground," McPherson said. "The Towton at Wetherby has been a long-term plan for a while. If it came up very soft we'd probably give it a miss, but if it was decent ground that's where he might end up."
