Mark Johnston has started off the year in fantastic style and has his two-year-olds flying at the minute.

An above-average juvenile of his last season was BEAVERBROOK, who looks to be racing off a very decent mark this time around. The son of Cape Cross ran a fine fourth in last term's Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot where he had a number of high-class horses in behind and also finished just two-and-three-quarter lengths behind hot 2000 Guineas favourite Air Force Blue that day.

Beaverbrook continued to race in the top two-year-old races following that effort and ran creditably behind Birchwood in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket's July Meeting, the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood won by Galileo Gold and First Selection in the Solario Stakes at Sandown.

Beaverbrook had his first run of the year at Wolverhampton in March over an extended mile in a 12-runner contest. He was drawn widest of the field and forced to give plenty of weight all round. He was dropped in on the rail by Franny Norton but could not get a clear run in the home straight. When daylight did emerge, Beaverbrook made flying headway in the closing stages to finish a close third and would have won if the contest had been over another half-furlong.

Having been raised just a pound to an official rating of 98, connections may be tempted to protect his mark and have a crack at a big handicap at Royal Ascot.

The Britannia Stakes over a strongly-run straight mile at the Berkshire track looks like it could prove to be an ideal race.
