Newmarket Maiden Points to Buick Mount
There are probably some likely types in the EBF Stallions Friends Of Racing Welfare Maiden Stakes this evening but on this occasion the joint most experienced, HOLD SWAY, might hold off all challengers. He has run three times and has improved his official rating from 56 to 72 and wears cheekpieces for the first time today. We are not sure how his rivals will handle the give in the ground, though MUTARABBY and BULDAN both get BTOPlus+ positives under "Sire Going" but we know that Hold Sway definitely goes on ground with give from two of his three performances. At Kempton, the going was standard to slow - equivalent to soft - and he kept on really well after running green, and at Doncaster he was beaten just half a length by Dubawi Prince and Never Surrender; the latter has run possible Derby favourite Cracksman to seven lengths and then won at Chester. BTO has Hold Sway at the top of its regular ratings and gives him five nice positives, including Appleby's recent form and his 18.3% better than expected return when teaming up with jockey William Buick. The horse is 3/1 in a nine horse race and 1.58 for a place on Betfair.
